Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American politician, attorney, and the current vice president of United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrant immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her shrewd questions of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
